Geo caching

Welcome to our Geo Caching page

Do you have a sense of adventure? A little mix of Sherlock Holmes & Indiana Jones running through your veins? If so, Peter & I would like to introduce you an exciting, new hobby, suitable for a great time for the Whole Family, it is a growing phenomena! It is Geo-caching!

What is it exactly? Throughout our beautiful country, and probably somewhere near you, some folks have hidden/buried some CACHES, below you will see a few pictures that Peter provided from his last Geo-caching adventure

Some caches will contain quite valuable items, some will contain things like pictured above. Peter & his wife have found numerous items, from $100.00 bills to simple knick knacks.

It reminds me of a famous guys and his box of chocolates, you never know what you will find! I am sitting here trying to find a way to explain this game, the easiest way is to think " Treasure Hunt". This game is being played in numerous countries, the ONLY main expense that I can see, would be for a handheld GPS locator, which can be purchased at many department stores, sporting goods stores and electronic stores (those ending in MART, Five, Shack etc..), I have seen them for not much more than $80.00. Of course, learning how to use them is of most importance!

Another cool helper, and since you are reading this, you should be able to access it, is GOOGLE EARTH, it is FREE and an awesome little program (you have seen it in action on the major TV news networks), you enter a location and it will zoom to it and give you satellite picture of the area & also give you the coordinates! I just recently signed up, for FREE, at the main registration site for Geo-caching,

GEOCACHING.COM, please take a few minutes and go visit them, once you have become a member, you will receive periodical updates of Caches in YOUR area! You can also go and find other locations that you may travel to!

This is something that you can do while visiting Aunt Bertha or cousin Fred!

Most folks will take an item or two when they find a cache and will replace them with other things (no need to spend much money!), a family business card/pencils/pens/little knick knacks etc. Yes there are wealthy folks that may leave valuable things like money/jewelry etc..

The THRILL of the game, is the CHASE! And the Challenge of finding these caches, all locations are freely given, however they are by coordinates NOT addresses! Therefore the need for the GPS! Google earth can give you a BIG head way. Most of these caches will be in beautiful somewhat remote areas of this country, do not forget that digital camera! Going Geo-Caching soon?

Peter & I, will use this page to publish your Treasure Hunts adventures and pictures. We will provide you with new info as it comes to us.

Well folks, the Moosenosebrothers just got together here in sunny Yucca Valley, CA. This morning we went on the hunt, and through our fancy equipment and tenacious efforts, discovered NOT ONE but TWO caches!! One was a very small Altoids can, boy talk about making us sweat trying to find it! Our GPS unit told us it was within 2 feet, yet we couldn't quite find it, here are a few pics of our adventure, I hope you enjoy them!

We have a few more pics from our little adventure, go to Geo-Caching page 2 where they are located. I will add more as soon as I receive them.

So put on your Sherlock hats, turn on the GPS and start hunting! By the way, for some reason, children make awesome detectives in this fun game.

Perhaps, someday we will meet at one of these caches, look for the Moosenose Brothers cards or pencils. Below you will see a couple of new pics provided by Peter & his wife, from their last adventure in Geo-caching.

This is our new MoosenoseBrothers.com cards that Karen graciously designed, us old fart may be called many things, but Artistically inclined is not one of them :-)

We are still working out the details but Peter & I may reward those who find this card in a cache (a code will be written on the back), the reward may be a book or other small item related to Geo-caching, I will let you know once all is ironed out.

Folks here are some books that will give you a heads up on this fun and entertaining hobby! Most are designed for people like me, Newbies! I have pucrchased a couple of them and I have found them most informative and make searching for treasures this more pleasurable. Now go out there and find those Treasures!
